“Today I am grateful for…”
This is how every evening at our home ends.
I have two kids. I love being a mom, having fun with my kids and teaching them new skills. As a psychologist and self development specialist I understand that having good basics in life is very important. The earlier you learn it, the happier you’ll be. I wish I knew this when I was younger.
I started practicing gratitude several years ago and it really changed my life. Gratitude makes you happy. That’s it. It doesn’t mean all days are rainbows and unicorns but if you have at least one thing you are grateful for at the end of the day it really changes everything. Why is gratitude so important?
Studies have shown that gratitude reduces stress and depression, improves sleep and increases life satisfaction. The best part is that gratitude is free. The most important thing you have to remember is that gratitude is a skill and you have to practice it regularly. It may not be easy at first but after few times it becomes natural, a new habit develops. My son doesn’t go to sleep without saying at least one thing he is grateful for and it makes me very proud.
I want my kids to be happy so I teach them gratitude. They may not understand it’s power yet but I believe it will be one of the best skills in their lives.
Do you practice gratitude?
